Samuelson Pavilion, thanks to gifts received from Jack ('46) and Sally ('48) Samuelson, serves as a central gathering place for Occidental students, faculty, and staff. Designed by Myron Hunt, the building was originally a women's gymnasium; most recently it was used as studio space for sculpture classes. The renovation design by Brenda Levin provided a coffee bar, lounge, assembly space for student meetings and dances, and an expanded outdoor deck. In 1997, The Samuelson Pavilion was enlarged to accommodate the Tiger Cooler, a full-service grill serving sandwiches, hamburgers, wood-fired pizza, bagels, coffee, and hand-dipped ice cream. The Tiger Cooler replaced the O-Zone Coffee Bar which heralded a new era for the building. Erected 1922, Remodeled 1994, Enlarged 1997.
