Research Abroad

Biology major Elaine Wescott studied beekeeping in France during her research summer abroad.

Not every lesson worth learning comes from the classroom.

What can a summer in Ecuador teach you about healthcare in underserved communities? What will you take away from a term spent filming a documentary on traditional embroidery in India?

The answer: plenty. Much more, in fact, than you can know just by reading through the vast collection of work already produced by Oxy students who have taken their research abroad. Often, that research becomes the basis for senior comps, opens the doors to invaluable faculty mentorships or begins a path toward a future career.

Four years is plenty of time. Find one week. Or 12. Focus your thoughts and pack your notebook.

Oxy offers many research-abroad opportunities to ensure access to qualified students across all majors and fields of study.

Summer fellowships offered through our International Programs Office provide funding and support for 8-12 weeks of fieldwork. The Undergraduate Research Center connects students with shorter-term funding for spring break, summer, or winter-term research. Individual departments and programs across campus offer other sources of support as well.

Where will your research take you?
