The 2015 Fall MVP group strikes a pose on campus. Each fall, Oxy flies in up to 40 outstanding high school seniors.

Fall MVP

Fall MVP

It’s one of our most valuable programs for some of our most valuable players.

Each year Occidental College welcomes traditionally underrepresented students to campus to discover firsthand what makes Oxy distinct. Participants will have the opportunity to tour the campus, attend classes, meet with faculty, staff and current students, spend the night in a residence hall, and explore our surrounding communities. See below for a tentative schedule of this year’s program.

When will the program take place?
This year’s program is scheduled for Thursday, November 10 - Saturday, November 12. Participants will arrive on campus on Thursday and depart early Saturday morning.

What is the cost of the program?
If invited to attend MVP, Oxy will cover the full cost of attendance for the program including meals, housing, and air transportation (if applicable).

Who is invited to MVP?
The program is designed for traditionally underrepresented students who have not already had the opportunity to visit campus. All applicants must be high school seniors. Typically, students are nominated for the program by their high school counselor or a community partnership program.

How do I submit an application?
Students interested in attending MVP must complete an application by Monday, September 26, 2016 to be considered for the program. The required portions of the application include:

  • Student Application
  • Parent/Guardian Authorization Form
  • Counselor Recommendation Form
  • High School Transcript - A copy may be uploaded as part of the counselor recommendation, or an official or unofficial copy may be submitted separately to our office.
  • Standardized Test Scores (PSAT, ACT or SAT) - Scores must be verified in one of the following ways: official score submission to Occidental, scores listed on your transcript, your counselor including your official scores on the Counselor Recommendation Form, or submitting a screenshot of your scores (including your school's or the testing agency's official website/logo).

I don’t know much about Occidental. May I still apply to the program?
Yes. This program is designed to inform prospective students who haven’t visited and may not be familiar with our campus, but are eager to learn more. We encourage all interested applicants to review our website to familiarize themselves with the College before applying to and attending the program.

Can I apply as a junior?
No. Only seniors, students who will be graduating high school in 2017, are allowed to apply.

Will I have to apply to Oxy Early Decision?
No, applicants are not required to apply ED, although most applicants choose to submit either an Early Decision or Regular Decision application after attending the program.
