The OCE is back in action
Hey Everybody! The OCE is back in action and doing it big for its 2nd year here at Oxy. It is halfway through the semester and we’ve already seen over 150 Oxy students participate in the 9/11 Day of Service, Social Action Week, and Trippin’ on Social Justice trip to the Great Wall of Los Angeles. It was my responsibility to organize Social Action Week and let me just say, the event was a success! We had 22 student organizations and outside community partners set up display tables on the quad to help inform students on how they can get involved in the community! Students were able to sign up to serve the greater Eagle Rock and Los Angeles area in many ways including planting community gardens, providing food for the homeless, and tutoring children. During the Social Action Fair, the office also threw our 1st annual Office of Community Engagement Block Party! Turns out… we know how to party! The students had a blast as they indulged in great food, great music, and great company while they got to know our office and its resources a little better! Social Action Week is an event to remember! You might as well go ahead and mark your calendars for next year! You won’t want to miss it! The Office of Community Engagement has proven to be a very fun, random, and absolutely incredible workplace. It is such a privilege to work with the amazing OCE team who work hard to provide the Oxy community with opportunities to get involved and who are passionate about the work that they do! We definitely spend a lot of time in the office brainstorming and planning events and with more Trippin’ on Social Justice trips, Food Justice Month, and the MLK Day of Service just around the corner, I can’t imagine that changing anytime soon! I’m excited! -Alex LaRosa :) Make sure to you’re tuned in to what OCE events are happening here on at Oxy and in LA. Find us on Facebook at “Oxy Office of Community Engagement” and on Twitter @oxyoce!
