Step out of the campus bubble and into a celebration

Finals are just around the corner but a culture break is always good, especially in beautiful Los Angeles! This weekend you should visit one of my favorite places in downtown Los Angeles, Olvera Street! With Cinco de Mayo happening, there will most definitely be something worth seeing!

Let go of the modern annoyances and enjoy a step back in time

The end of the school year is coming fast! Before the late night study sessions bombard you, get away from school while getting into the studying mood! I recommend the renaissance faire! It may seem a little odd at first but the ambiance is worth it. There are interesting shows, tea with the queen, Queens College, shopping and Renaissance delicacies, Huzzah!

Also if you're into steampunk or Doctor Who the culture is rising into the Renaissance Faire. It's a very exciting mixture!

Get ready for spring with a tasty treat

Happy springtime! Ruby’s Diner is one of my favorite places to hang out with friends! It’s a California original that started in Newport Beach in 1982. The Restaurant builds off of a 40’s theme with Red vinyl seats and carnations at the end of every table. There are a few in other states but Southern California is home to the only ones that are on the pier. Everything is well priced although no matter what you order, Ruby’s best attributes are hands down their shakes and fries! I personally recommend the black cherry shake. It’s delicious!

Where to go to get your big @$# coat or gator shoes

Oxy students, you have style, there is no doubt about it. With SpringFest right around the corner, you are going to want to look your best. Since we don't have fashion trucks to park along side the food trucks, I found a few great places where you can get your vintage and second-hand threads to put together your look for the big day.

Owl Talk

One activity can help you get ready for beach body season, learn about your neighborhood, and help others

Emiko at the Color RunBe it a rebirth of New Years goals or a desire to get ready for swimsuit season, running is the perfect way to find interesting and enticing nooks and crannies of Los Angeles. Mapmyrun.com is the perfect online tool to help and motivate you in your running experience. The site offers the ability to map out runs at specific distances in and around Eagle Rock. The coolest aspect is that you can share your running maps and look at other people’s maps in the community.

After you have caught the running bug; Los Angeles offers a multitude of enticing runs for both novice and advanced runners alike. These runs also support community and nationwide charity organizations. It’s the perfect way to get fit and help the...

Feeling a little less wealthy? Emiko has some options for you.

I hope you had the loveliest Valentine's Day, Tigers! After Valentine's Day some people will certainly be feeling a lighter wallet. However, if your wallet is deflated but your Valentines Day spirit is still on a roll I have the perfect thing for you, and the great part is they are all free (or almost free)! If you’re up for a cute adventure I have my top choices for the cutest things in the Los Angeles area.

Point Dume State Beach

This place is gorgeous, especially during sunset! This is the perfect place to go exploring and a good place for whale watching.

Why hip-hop's hottest duo was chosen to headline this year's SpringFest

Unless you've been living with your head in the fountain, you have by now heard that this year's SpringFest headliner is Macklemore and Ryan Lewis. I checked in with Programming Board Manager Redd Barua-Norton to find out a little more about how the SpringFest artist was chosen.

When it comes down to it, with Macklemore's recent chart-topping success, not many people are questioning this decision. There are some who don't understand why we are hosting another hip-hop headliner. What PB is trying to do is give the Oxy student body what they want. Last summer, Oxy students responded to a survey regarding what type of music they wanted to hear at concerts. That survey showed that "Oxy students want to hear hip-hop and EDM [electronic dance music] by a very large margin over other genres of music," Redd says. "We had an...
