Good Idea/Bad Idea? Print, Swipe, Collect....
I'm sure you have seen it. The stack of papers left at one of the printers in the Library from print jobs that never get picked up.
It can be annoying to have to sift through all of that to find your print job, but it's also a really big waste. Enter - "Release to Print."
A short while back Oxy decided to try a new experiment in the Academic Commons called "Release to Print." According to the Oxy Copy Center who maintains the printers in the library this means that "in order to print or copy, you will need to swipe your ID card or enter your Oxynet credentials at the multifunction devices" in the building. This is just a pilot program, but it looks like it might have potential. Why? Because it saves paper. The image is just a screenshot of a web page outlining how much it saves. The web page updates every 10 minutes with the latest savings in everything from sheets to boxes, pounds or even trees. What do you think? Good Idea? or Bad Idea?
