Guide to Finals Week Fun
Make your finals week a little less rough with massages, pizza, furry friends and more!
No one likes finals. Not even the faculty. But sadly, they seem to be as inevitable as death and taxes. So while you're plugging away trying to figure out how to appropriately use that equation or describe the interplay between individuals along the gender spectrum with various holiday catalog ads remember to take a bit of a break. Here's your guide to the many different ways to help keep yourself sane this finals week.
The Green Bean always has specialty pastries during finals week to help you cope. Be sure to check out the Green Bean Facebook page to keep an eye on which pastries are coming which days. They will also be featuring various activities throughout the week including board games, coloring, and maybe even different quiet hours and loud hours to help create some collective focus or stress release.
Monday - 12/10
All week long you can walk the labyrinth in Upper Herrick to help center yourself and calm your mind heading into or out of your finals. The practice of walking a labyrinth has been used for centuries to help individuals restore balance to their life. Today the labyrinth with be open from 9am to 9pm in Upper Herrick.
The folks from OSL are partnering once again with Therapy Dogs International to bring you the Doggy Play Date - 6pm to 8pm in Lower Herrick. Enjoy time frolicking with furry frienimals. Get your face licked and laugh along with these cute and cuddly dogs. Even better, you don't have to worry about feeding or walking them (or cleaning up after them with a little plastic bag).
ResEd is hosting a Toast and Tea night in Braun from 7pm to 9pm. Take a taste and kiss your stress goodbye. Just remember to bring your own mug.
Tuesday - 12/11
The labyrinth will be open again today. Stop by Upper Herrick between 9am and 11pm to calm your mind.
If you mind is calm and it's your body that needs work, sign up for one of the 15 minute free massages taking place tonight between 7pm and 11pm in Lower Herrick. Email spirituallife@oxy.edu with your name, student ID #, date, and time to reserve your space. Time slots are available on a first come = first served basis. If slots are full, you can always come down and hang out in case someone doesn't show up (which happens more than you might expect.) There will also be lots of food, arts and crafts, and music for everyone to enjoy. These events are sponsored by the Office of Religious and Spiritual Life.
Make your own Puppy Chow in Stewie from 9:30pm to 10:30pm. No, this isn't food left over from the Doggy Play Date. It's a tasty snack to keep you going during those long and late sessions.
Wednesday - 12/12
The labyrinth will be open again today in Upper Herrick between 9am and 11pm to search for inner peace.
Tonight again from 7pm to 11pm in Lower Herrick come enjoy the arts and crafts, food, and music or sign up for one of the free massages. Remember to reserve a massage appointment by emailing spirituallife@oxy.edu with your name, student ID #, date, and time. Time slots are available on a first come = first served basis. If slots are full, you can always come down and hang out in case someone doesn't show up (which happens more than you might expect.)
Like to paint? You can join the folks in Rangeview for a community painting session from 4:30pm to 5:30pm.
Also in the halls tonight, Norris is having some baked goods and a rousing game of Apples to Apples from 9pm to 10pm.
Thursday - 12/13
Walk the labyrinth in Upper Herrick between 9am and 9pm.
Friday - 12/14
The labyrinth is open for its last day in Upper Herrick between 9am and 5pm.
