Tomorrow: ONE WAY: School to Prison Pipeline Workshop
Please join the Intercultural Community Center and the Office of Community Engagement for an interactive workshop exploring the school to prison pipeline. The ‘school-to-prison pipeline’ refers to the policies and practices that push our nation’s schoolchildren out of the classroom and into the juvenile and criminal justice systems, disproportionately effecting students of color. This encompasses the growing use of zero-tolerance discipline, school-based arrests, disciplinary alternative schools, and secured detention which further marginalizes our most at-risk youth and diverts them from educational opportunities. The workshop will consist of an experiential and interactive game that illustrates the problems within the system, followed by a discussion over a provided lunch. Space is limited, so please RSVP to utevsky@oxy.edu to participate.
