We’ve gotten a lot of questions from students about Springfest 2012 and who will be performing at the concert. Devon MacIver from OSL takes a few minutes to answer the most common questions and add some clarity and transparency to the selection process.

Who is playing Springfest 2012? Unfortunately we aren’t releasing the headliner for the Springfest 2012 show just yet, check back tomorrow!  We can share the date.  March 30, 2012.  Mark your calendars.  Oxy +1 if we can keep the show outside, but it may be reduced to Oxy only if weather doesn’t cooperate.  Alumni you’ll are invited again, look for an email soon!

What is one thing you wish students knew about the process? Coachella is a problem.  What do we have against a multiple weekend music festival?  Two words-- radius clause.  Golden Voice, the group that sponsors Coachella, has a clause in the Coachella contract that does not allow for groups...

Roof Top Deck at Fall Premiere Event hosted by the Paley Center

If you are interested in pop culture, old Hollywood or photography then I highly recommend you visit both the Paley Center for Media in Beverly Hills and the Annenberg Space of Photography.  Both venues are must-sees for people visiting Los Angeles. Although they are off the beaten track of most traditional LA hotspots, each are worth the drive. Last semester I spent a weekend watching old Carey Grant movie screenings and walking through rooms of costumes worn by Old Hollywood actors. My favorite  one was a tuxedo worn by Fred Astaire. AMAZING! Other costumes featured in...

Professor Brody Fox talks about his tattoos, their meanings, and how they've helped him in his life's journey.

Chances are you know someone who has a tattoo.  You may not know they have it, but there are enough people in the U.S. who have them that you know at least one of them.  Have you ever asked someone about why they got the tattoo they did?  What it's meaning was?  When I've done it, I've gotten a mixture of responses from "I don't know, I just think it looks cool" to "I wanted to commemorate my cousin/sibling/friend who died in Afghanistan."  Other people have used it to mark a struggle.  Professor Brody Fox has gotten a tattoo or two in his life and with much more intentionality than most people. On Wednesday, February 22 at 7pm come out to Thorne Hall to see an advance screening if his new documentary film about his journey and how he has used this form of art to...

Sophomore Devon Provo and her homemade gnocchi!

Nestled in a courtyard in the center of Old Town Pasadena, Il Fornaio is a hidden culinary treasure. It is one of my favorite restaurants in Old Town Pasadena.  Il Fornaio is an authentic Italian restaurant adjoined by a small café that serves croissants and espressos. Il Fornaio features freshly imported ingredients from Italy including Sicilian lemons and authentic Italian olive oil. The freshness and quality of the ingredients is palpable in every bite. Not only does it serve...

Welcome back everyone!  Spring semester is here.  For our readers who are first year students, prepare yourself for a semester even more full of great events both on campus and off campus. In unfortunately news: right now we're having some difficulties with the calendar visibility for anyone who is not logged into the Oxyconnect system.  For some of our calendar, people who aren't logged in will only see "busy" instead of the event details....

MLK Week Poster This year, Oxy is getting back to its old ways with a full week of programming celebrating the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.  Things are a little unusual since MLK Day actually took place before the first day of spring classes, and the celebration doesn't run Sunday to Saturday.  This year's programming will begin on Wednesday, January 25 and run through Wednesday, February 1 and will feature something for everyone.   For the service minded folks, the day of service is still the anchor, and will take place on Saturday.  With hundreds of people already registered, make sure you get your...
