  Although 2011 isn't even over, the staff if the Office of Student Life (OSL) has already started to think ahead to the 2012-2013 academic year!  Although it seems far away, with a large number of students going abroad each semester, we like to have hiring information out about the following year early, so that any and all students can apply!  OSL will start accepting applications for the following positions starting December 1:

  • Orientation Coordinator
  • Orientation Core
  • ASOC Managers (TOA, Bengal Bus, La Encina, Programming Board, SAC, and Finance Assistant)
  • OSL Program Assistant
  • Green Bean Managers (Sales Analysis, Health & Safety, Staffing & Quality Control, Programming & Customer Experience, and Purchasing & Inventory)
  • OxyEngage Coordinator

Founded in 1990, the Upright Citizens Brigade is an improvisational comedy and sketch comedy group that has served as a jump start for comedians such as Amy Poehler and Horatio Sanz.  You've seen their comedians perform on your favorite shows, including The Daily Show with Jon Stewart, 30 Rock, Chapelle's Show and countless others, now see what the Upright Citizens Brigade tour company has to offer.  On Saturday October 29, the Office of Student Life and Programming Board are hosting the Upright Citizens Brigade Tour Company in Samuelson Pavilion at 9:00PM, this is a free event.

Start your Pacific Standard Time Journey!! Starting in October, Southern California will be hosting one of the largest and most exhilarating artistic collaborations the world has ever seen. According to the Pacific Standard Time handbook, “Pacific Standard Time is a collaboration of 60 cultural institutions [in Southern California] and more than 1350 artists … [working] to tell the story of the birth of the Los Angeles Art Scene”.  The art exhibits on display will focus on the post – World War II period ranging from 1945-1980. gold line mapI hear quite a bit that it's so hard to get anywhere in LA.  I agree.  As someone who spends way more time in my car than I should, it is not easy to get around LA in a car.  Fortunately, there is a metro system that does a decent job.  It's not great if you're in a hurry, but it does take you to some interesting places.  Oxy is fairly close to the Metro Gold Line which picks up in Highland Park. This weekend, check out the Outdoor Cinema Food Fest as they set up "the ultimate picnic" at the LA State Historic Park.  The Fest is a great way to get out and enjoy an evening of great movies, music, and food trucks.  Just hop on the bus or metro and come down for a wonderful evening.  It's just a short walk from the Chinatown metro station.This cost is just $10 for entry and you can buy tickets on their website.
