125 and other thoughts

Hi everybody! Between now and my last post, something major happened - I found I'm headed to Rome!!! And even better, I'm going with my best friend!!! Are we the luckiest girls ever or what? My group of friends and I are all going fall semester, so we don't miss each other for a whole year. Sadly, I will not see some of you incoming first-years the first semester you are on campus.
Places my friends and I are going: Rome (!!!), Chile, New Zealand, South Africa, Spain, and so many other places. It's still hard to process that we're all going to be all over the place.
In other news, I can't believe spring break is over! I spent my spring break mostly on campus, catching up on sleep and reading, but I went down to San Diego for a couple days to hang out with a friend and I also went to work a few times.
Having an on-campus job is great: it's not enough time to take away from living life, doing you, etc, but it keeps me busy and forces me to manage my time just that much better. Also, my job is great because I love what I do! My official title is 'Editorial Assistant' in the Communications department, and that means I do all sorts of things. I've written news pieces (you know, the ones on Oxy's home page that flash by), researched for my boss, and photocopied a lot of things, but the best part of working in Communications right now is that we're all so busy because of the Oxy125 celebration going on.
Oxy125 is the 125th anniversary, and Founders Day is April 20, 2012 this year. Oxy is going all out with an 1887s style carnival and a Ferris wheel, plus various alumni receptions and a fancy dinner with President Veitch. Classes are 'highly encouraged' to be canceled that day! Part of the 125 celebration is a look back at some of our most distinguished alumni, and the Communications department has been writing up profiles on them that you can view here. Oxy grads do some pretty awesome things and I'd really recommend that you check out the profiles (not just because I wrote some of them!).
I'm going to keep this post short because it turns out there are a hundred things I failed to do over break that I really needed to do, oops. No pictures, but for my loyal readers who care my current manicure is OPI 'Feelin Hot Hot Hot.' Last week it was Zoya 'Kristen' with little hearts in Essie 'Mochacino.'
Don't freak out about acceptance letters too much!
