All Grown Up

Hope your semesters are going well and things aren’t getting too busy. It’s hard to believe that it’s already November and I’m going to be registering for spring semester’s classes next week. This year has been all over the place. One minute I’m discussing research methods and the next I’m coordinating plans for January’s Martin Luther King Day of Service.
I’ve definitely had to grow up this semester, and even though it’s tough I’ve loved every minute of it! I have an internship off campus, which means I rely on public transportation from time to time, and if you know me, then you know I do not do well with maps, directions…basically any sort of navigation is a mind maze for me. However, learning how to coordinate the bus and metro systems has really helped me better understand Los Angles as a both a city and a home.
It was hard for me to adapt to California when I first moved here. I’m from Memphis, Tennessee and definitely experienced a culture shock my freshman year. I’m thankful for this semester, even though the subway system will forever terrify me, I feel as if I have more ownership in this city. I’m not so timid to venture off and explore different sites with friends, such as the Griffith Observatory or the Chinese Theatre. In fact, I lead the way as if I own the place.
I’m excited for what the future holds between Los Angeles and me, who knows? Maybe when I graduate I’ll call this place a permanent home.
