Hey everyone! The end of the semester is coming up really, really quickly. Did I really start college just three months ago? Now that the semester’s almost done, these past few weeks have been really busy as extracurricular activities are beginning to wrap up. I just had my College Chorus concert on Sunday – and it was awesome. After an entire semester of hard practice, the concert was a great success. The entire chorus sounded beautiful in Herrick Chapel (the on-campus chapel). The chapel is absolutely gorgeous in the afternoon, when the sunlight hits the colorful stained glass windows at the perfect angle. Singing gospel pieces and classical music in such a wonderful building really made the concert so much better. Your religious beliefs (or lack thereof) didn’t matter during that concert – all that mattered was that you were making great music with great people. As they say, music is a universal language, right? I’m excited to be returning to College Chorus again next semester as well. Singing at Oxy is just a lot of fun – how could I not return? We’ll be singing more pop pieces during spring semester so it should be even more amazing.
Another sign that the semester is ending is Thanksgiving…! Thanksgiving week was last week and I got to go home! It’s been a while since I got to see my family, so it was really fun to be home for the week. While the Marketplace food is top-notch (the Thanksgiving lunch they served last week was so great)… I have to say, I really missed my mom’s cooking and just hanging out with my family in general… And I also got to catch up with some old friends that came home for the break, too. Living on-campus has its perks – and I have to say, I missed my dear friends back at Oxy – but it’s nice to come back home sometimes. I have so many amazing people in my life that I’m thankful for and it was great to take this time to relax before I came back to campus for the last few weeks of the semester.
And speaking of the last few weeks of the semester… Finals are coming up. From final research papers to exams, I’ve got a lot of work to do. While finals are stressful and perhaps, a little bit intimidating (understatement of the century) – it’s kind of cool to see how much I’ve learned this semester, and how far I’ve come since I started college in August. Really, I’ve learned so much from all of my classes and it’s kind of amazing… and simultaneously frightening because I’ve got all this stuff to review before exams.
Wish me luck! With love, Connie.
P.S. I’m a Californian and yet I visited the Griffith Observatory for the first time last month. Shame on me for not visiting sooner. Did you know that downtown Los Angeles look absolutely gorgeous from the Griffith Observatory at night?
