Back to School!
Blogger: Katherine Carey
It’s hard to believe that I’m already back at school. I came home from New York to a flurry of tasks, doctor’s appointments, holiday parties, family time, and get-togethers with friends who I hadn’t seen in ages. I slept in, gorged on my mom’s home cooking, and read a pile of books just for fun, which is something I hadn’t done in quite a while. As the end of my Oxy career is looming large, I also have been trying to start fellowship applications and find programs I’m interested in working with post-graduation. However, the momentousness of the task makes it all the more intimidating, so things are going slowly on that front, despite its obvious importance.
This semester, I will be living in my sorority house, which has already been so fun, and the best way I can think of to come back to campus and jump right back into the community. I have started re-training for my jobs on campus, and have thoroughly enjoyed the first two days of classes. Although I have a lot of work to do—not the least of which is my senior comprehensive paper, and independent research project that’s 30-50 pages long—I’m already looking forward to making the most of my last semester here and trying not to let my concerns about the future bog me down too much. I’ll keep you all posted about how this effort to stay calm goes as graduation gets closer. ;) In the meantime, congratulations and good luck to all those of you who recently turned in your apps to Oxy, and for those of you are younger and starting to look into colleges, we look forward to meeting you. Talk to you soon!
