Back at School!

Hello Avid Readers!
This week, two things became clear: 1) that I can no longer pretend that it’s summer, and 2) that I am officially a senior. Senior year started at running pace when I returned to campus almost a month ago to assist in planning and implementing first-year Orientation.
As a member of Orientation Core, I helped train Orientation Team leaders and plan various events for all new students to enjoy! My friend Kristen and I were responsible for planning a Student Services game show for the first day of Orientation, as well as coordinating skits for our mandatory session on Alcohol & Other Drugs.
Being a part of O-Core made me feel so energized to get back in the swing of campus life—with the added bonus of 50 new friends (O-Team leaders) and 7 other O-Core members who I couldn't have survived Orientation without. Here we are in our best Bridesmaids pose, extra sassy!
But now it’s back to class and with class comes the first reminder of what it means to be a senior: Senior Comps. Oxy students all finish their undergrad education with a comprehensive project that demonstrates their mastery of their major. As a double major, I have the pleasure of two projects—one for Cognitive Science and one for Theater.
My theater comps have already started: this semester, I’ll be stage-managing one of Oxy’s Mainstage Productions. We’re doing The Thugs by Adam Bock, and it’s being directed by a professional guest artist, Larissa Kokernot. It’s exciting that, at Oxy, I have the opportunity to learn about my craft and work on it with a professional. It’s been a great experience so far!
I hope all of you are getting back into school-mode easier than I am — I keep forgetting that my evenings are not mine to do as I please. Here is a picture of Dana (one of my Delta sisters) and I. By total coincidence, we ended up in the library at night, in the same shirt, at the same bank of computers.
Best of luck on your college search!!
