the beauty of spring break
March 15, 2011
Hello all! It's my first day back after spring break. I had a 6.5 hour flight back to school last night after a very energizing break... I avoided most of my homework and spent much time creating, going to the diner, and eating Greek food with my sister in Astoria, Queens. I am SO happy to be back, though... Seriously, even though it's only been a week! As of today, I'm officially all set to go to CAPE TOWN next semester! I went to see Eve Ensler, author of The Vagina Monologues, speak at 12:30. It was so powerful. She read excerpts from her book and talked a lot about the pressure for girls to please in our society, especially how we often don't even recognize the extremes to which we go to please others. It was an incredibly, surprisingly emotional hour, between audience questions and Ms. Ensler's own readings. This is a very intense week for those of us in Dance Production... I'm part of dancehall and step, so I have a lot of tech time in the auditorium for lighting & spacing, plus regular practice and dress rehearsal. My fellow bloggers Aja Sanneh and Rachel Greenstein (also Deltas!) are in dancehall with me... hopefully we will be worthy of a true dancehall competition when we perform on Friday & Saturday night. My iPod is absolutely dominated by Major Lazer and Vybz Kartel right now due to dancehall, hahaha. Check one of the dance pro posters here -
Sadly, I must go back to homework/trying to finish everything in my life before a meeting and dance pro tech times tonight, but I'll be posting again soon! Also, if you have any questions about Oxy, feel free to email me whenever. I love emails, haha. agreco@oxy.edu Or Facebook me @ Alexis Greco, 2013.
