busybusy - the post-Spring-Break life
Blogger: Lisa Gilliland
Hello there! As most of you probably know, acceptance letters go out tomorrow! (Right? if not... oops :P) Anywho, good luck to everyone! Now on to a bit about my week... Seeing as this is the first week back from Spring Break it feels like time is moving half as fast as normal. It's only Wednesday and yet this is the first time I feel like I've had a chance to sit down and actually do something besides homework/softball/class/meetings since Monday! I personally like being busy - it keeps me awake and interested, but this is borderline chaotic!!! This week is I-week for my sorority, Kappa Alpha Theta. What this means is that the new girls who went through formal recruitment a few weeks ago will formally be initiated on SUNDAY!!! This is a super big deal and really exciting, but is also quite time consuming. This semester I'm getting a little!!! (I can't tell you much else about this thought because she doesn't know that I'm her big yet!) anyway, I'm SUPER SUPER PUMPED about this!!!!! I spent like 15 minutes jumping up and down when I got the email saying who my little was going to be. So during I-Week we have fun Theta events every night just for an hour or so - it's always a really fun time to take a break from studying and make cookies, dance/sing, run around, share stories, and bond with your sisters! On Monday of this week the softball team had professional photos taken by one of my good friends and classmate Chris Ellis. He does a lot of the photography for the school and also has his own company. He's really talented. Anywho, here's a picture of the 3 girls on the softball team that are in Theta. The Kite is our sorority's symbol, so a lot of times we make a kite with our bodies!!! This leads nicely into the bit about softball. Our coach gave us quite a few days off over Spring Break so we all had the chance to go home/off campus if we wanted to. Unfortunately this also means we have a lot of practicing to do to get back into the swing of things. So we have been practicing extended hours every day (especially since it stays lighter later now!) but we are looking quite good and are totally ready to beat Whittier this Saturday!!! Here's our team getting some sillies out before getting serious on the field =)
Finally, I'm going to quickly tell you about all the AWESOME things happening this weekend!!! 1. Tomorrow night I'm going to see The Hunger Games at 12:01 with a big group of friends and I AM SO SO SO VERY EXCITED!!!!! 2. Friday night I am going to the Occidental Dance Production which is basically the most widely attended event all year here at Oxy and features hundreds of students dancing in tons of different styles. It's really fun to go and support your friends who have been working non stop to prepare! 3. Saturday we play 2 games against Whittier at home =) 4. Saturday night there is a dance on campus! I love dances!!! 5. Sunday is Theta Initiation!!! This takes up most of the day but is super top secret so... yep! 6. Sunday night the Occidental Sports Business and Law Network (OSBLN) is hosting a guest speaker Mark Francis who is the UCLA Sports Business Professor and Sports Marketing Consultant at BaAM Productions. 7. Finally, I will end my weekend in the library studying for my calc test (booooooooooooo) Well anyway, guess I better get back to the grind before it's sleepy time!!! Good luck again to everyone receiving those letters soon!!! -- Lisa G =)
