Cliché Alert: I'm busy
So I’m a full time student. If you were to ask the registrar what that means their office might give you a numerical answer, like earning 12+ credits per semester. But there’s more to that, there’s the feeling of being a full time student that I carry as well. The feeling that time is a precious commodity when I look at my calendar and see that I’m booked straight from 8:30 AM – 8:30 PM. The feeling that the cycle of problem sets, office hours and exams are perpetual and infinite. The feeling that I'm working hard at all times.
This might sound terrible to you, but it really isn’t. It’s a mindset that I’ve grown into and grown to love. When the alarm clock on my phone rings to life every morning, I get an immense amount of satisfaction switching over to my calendar app to see what the day has in store. I then swipe over to my email inbox to see the announcements and correspondences beginning to pile up at 8:00 AM. I genuinely love to feel busy. I could easily write about the weekend I had or the phenomenal short rib grilled cheese sandwich and (vegan) split pea soup that I had yesterday for lunch (pictured), but I’m not going to do that this week. What’s keeping me so busy? I’m currently taking four classes, which involves attending all the lectures and doing all the outside reading, and work that those classes require. In addition I hold two jobs on campus for roughly 15 hours per week. I am a director on Blyth Fund that holds me responsible for attending semi-weekly meetings and keeping myself up on the markets and our portfolio. And like Abby, I am also trying to figure out what I am doing with my summer as I search and apply for jobs and internships. Aside from school I also have a couple personal side projects that like to eat away at my free time. So Oxy is helping me keep myself busy, which is always good thing in my book.
