College Application Deadlines

Hi again everyone!

Happy Winter break to all! I’ve been on break for a couple of weeks now and it’s definitely nice being on my own schedule. I’ve been able to sleep in, hang out with my friends, do a little Christmas shopping, and relax. Not to mention, there have been some great t.v. marathons – Law and Order: SVU anyone? I’ve also been able to catch some movies and re-watch some of Game of Thrones in preparation for the third season in March. This has been a much-needed break.

Even though I feel that winter break has been going pretty slowly, there’s only about two weeks left until school starts again. For those high schools seniors reading this, you may have just submitted your application for Early Decision II or about to submit your Regular Decision application to Oxy. So even though you all have been on break (and I know some high schools are going back to school next Monday, January 7th – i.e. Eagle Rock High School!), I know that college applications were probably on your minds and keeping you busy. Just know that January is usually the last month that college apps are due in, so just breathe easy after you submit your last one. Then comes the waiting, the acceptance letters, and finally deciding where you want to go. It’s crazy to think that I heard back from colleges almost about 2 years ago. It was a stressful time, but a rewarding and exciting one in the end. College is worth all the hard work, so continue to make your last year count!

When deciding between colleges, I found that going to a smaller college would be more beneficial for me. It’s been great to have smaller class sizes and one-on-one attention from teachers. It all depends on what you want, so be honest with yourself. Also, don’t feel pressured to absolutely settle in the beginning. You can always transfer or take a year off – it’s all about what you need to do for yourself and your future. Everyone has his or her own way of going about it.
