Daisies and Sunshine and Rainbows
It’s kind of odd to have nothing to do. I mean, relatively speaking- there is never really nothing to do in college. I’m finally on spring break, and it’s been a whirlwind couple of weeks. Between the Holi dinner with the South Asian Students Association (free Indian food, great music by yours truly and colorful decorations everywhere? You don’t really see me complaining xP) and the Oxy -Caltech Orchestra concert, I had a great break from the papers I had to write. And of course we’re two weeks to the show for Dance Production- when did that happen? The Oxy-Caltech Orchestra is one of the many highlights of the music department. They usually have two concerts per semester and rehearse once a week. I was never really into chamber or orchestra music, but a chance meeting led me to one of their concerts and I was hooked. We even had a Trio perform Piazolla on Friday and it’s probably the fourth time I heard The Four Seasons but they never do get old. Which reminds me, I’m sorely tempted to start Tango lessons at the local dance studio. I’m in San Diego, but I miss Oxy already- I really want a peach smoothie from the Green Bean (those are super addictive, trust me!). I’ve been taking a lot of photos lately, spring lends itself to dramatic landscapes, and I’ll be putting them up in my next post. In my pattern of food-finding, I discovered a brilliant little Italian bakery on Colorado Boulevard, they have incredibly good Grissini and Red Velvet cake. There is also a wonderful Thai restaurant way off the beaten track called Chang Thai Bistro. Their salad wraps are to die for! Closer to home, a Vietnamese restaurant called Lemongrass has awesome Pho which is always really good on cold days in the library. The Theatre department is gearing up for its Spring productions-if any of you are around campus between March 28th and April 7th, you should come see them! We’re doing Ibsen’s A Doll’s House which is by far one of my favorite Ibsen plays. I wrote a directorial concept for it in Theatre 101 and had all the characters be toys in an enchanted toy room- it was pretty fantastical to say the least :] We’re also performing Big Love by Charles Mee, which is sure to be a riot of entertainment. One of the many things I love about Oxy’s theatre department is that you can be in the productions without having to be a theatre major or minor. The sun is out, there are birds in the background, I can smell flowers in the air and I have a danceable song on the radio- let the break begin xD
