Explore Digital Production at the Critical Making Studio!
Blogger: Jessie Baek
The Critical Making Studio (CMS) is a learning environment where students can engage with a range of digital production tools to stimulate their scholarly interests. The aim of the CMS is to help integrate digital technologies into scholarly practices, while simultaneously supporting students’ interests in the technologies. Located at the bottom floor of the Academic Commons, the CMS offers a multitude of creative tools, including video-audio equipment, software programs, and even a 3-D printer! All you need is a current Oxy ID card to check out any of the equipment that we have available for the Oxy community. If photography and audio production interests you, some of the equipments we offer include DSLR camera kits, GoPro cameras, and software programs such as Ableton Live 9, which will all help enhance your academic interests. If video and image editing is more your thing, we have a plethora of video editing softwares including Premiere Pro, Indesign, Camtasia, and PluralEyes. For those of you who are inexperienced in using special editing softwares or general equipments, the CMS provides consultations and video tutorials to help you get the most out of the tools. Even if your academic interests aren’t aligned with the digital arts, the CMS is a great space for you to get to know the resources that Oxy provides for its students. Whether or not you want to come down to the CMS to utilize our digital tools, or if you simply want to come down to tinker with our 3-D printer, the CMS is open for all Oxy students and faculty!
