Fall break through Thanksgiving, and some stuff in between
Blogger: Julius DiLorenzo
Hope everyone’s been enjoying their first semester of the year. Unlike my first year of college, this semester shot by. There are about three weeks left that pretty much go sequentially as Thanksgiving to reading week to finals and then homebound. Though many students opt to go home for Thanksgiving, I’ll be hanging around on campus. ResEd puts on a fancy Thanksgiving dinner for all the students staying, and there are various activities and trips to do throughout the break, so I’m looking forward to some downtime on campus, and hopefully the opportunity to get a jumpstart on finals studying. But we’ll see.
Since my last blog, life has only turned up. I went camping in San Diego with some friends over fall break, which was a good time all around. It was good to get some mountain air and being able to live in a city but have nature only a couple hours away is definitely an Oxy perk. Except for our lack of fire starters, the trip went smoothly. (Q: How many napkins do you need to feed a flame for a log to catch fire? A: 30 minutes of steady napkin-feeding worth). We also learned our lesson about filling up your gas tank before venturing miles into the mountains. Luckily, we made it to the top of the mountain and were able to roll in neutral straight down to get gas at the end of the trip.
I also had rushed, pledged, and was officially initiated into Phi Psi. Now I’m a real brother. Without revealing any brotherly fraternal secrets, it’s been a lot of fun and I definitely recommend considering Greek Life. At the very least, you get to learn lots of songs.
But for the next three weeks, it’s time to focus on finals. Except for tickets I got to Ellen for December 11th which will be pretty cool (LA privileges). But other than Ellen, it’s finals time.
