The Finals Grind
Blogger: Martin Pittman
And we are back!! As many of my peers have said, it is nearly the end of the semester. With the end of fall semester only days away, many people have pulled out the sweats and headed to the library. The academic grind, as we like to call it, is different for everyone, so with such little time left I thought I would share some tips to tackle the beast that is finals week. After 5 semesters I think my friends and I have a pretty good system.
The first step to success during finals week is deciding whether to study alone or with other friends. Personally, I like studying with friends because it motivates me to see my other friends working just as hard.
The next step is finding a great place to study. The library is undoubtedly many students go to spot, however it can sometimes be overwhelming, especially when you spend 12+ hours working per day. Therefore, other spots such as the Green Bean Coffee shop, department study rooms, and empty classrooms in Johnson or Fowler are great alternatives and can be very productive spaces.
Next is sleep. Make sure that you rest your body and mind during finals week. While it is important to keep working until your work is complete, it is equally imperative that you give your body time to rest and recuperate after all the hard work done this semester and the even harder work done during finals week.
The last and arguably most important thing is the outfit. Not kidding!! It is important to wear comfy clothes during finals week as you are already under immense physical stress. The added comfort of a warm sweatshirt or that favorite beanie is sometimes the difference between pushing through or having a melt down. So put your thinking caps on and good luck with the rest of finals!!!
