Football, Art, and Journalism

Hey all, Malcolm MacLeod here. I'm a sophomore here at Oxy and I've got a lot going on this semester. Right now I'm trying to decide on a major. I'm choosing between English or Media Arts and Culture, and if I have the time I'd like to fit in a Fine Arts Minor. Right now I think I'm leaning toward English. I work for our paper, The Occidental Weekly, and I've taken two journalism classes here at Oxy. Those classes are both taught by Bob Sipchen, a Pulitzer Prize winning journalist who is the current editor in chief of the Sierra Club Magazine. Between the newspaper and those classes, I'm pretty fired up about journalism right now and think it might be something I'd like to pursue.
I'm also on the football team, and after a disappointing season last year I'm happy to say that Tiger Football is turning things around. Our new Coach Doug Semones has brought in a skilled, passionate staff of young coaches that have led us to a 4-4 record so far, showing measurable improvement after last season that bodes well for the future.
With only two games left in the season, I can look forward to a relaxing Thanksgiving in San Diego with my cousin and his family. It will be a welcome break after a long season, especially with finals looming in the not so distant future.
However, I can't complain, I've had a great semester thus far, and look forward to whats to come. We register for classes this week, and I'm hoping to take classes in digital design and creative writing, which I definitely look forward to after spending this semester getting some of my core classes out of the way.
Anyway, that can wait until next semester, my next big challenge will really come when I've got to deal with the winter weather when I head home to New York for winter break!
