Goals for Spring Semester
Blogger: Kristin Feinberg
Ahh another semester at Oxy has come at last. Even though classes just started, I have been here for the past week and a half doing some pre-season training with the always wonderful women's lacrosse team. We've spent our week here training on the turf, as well as the weight room, and cheering on the Tigers doing work on the basketball court.
It seems like spring has already arrived in California. It feels nice to be back in the mid to high seventies versus the snow back home in Pennsylvania, and the sub zero temperatures in Montana, where I ventured to visit my brother over winter break. It has been a hard transition from spending my week running outside in the lovely sunshine to going back to class, but I'm pretty excited for the semester ahead. I'm taking the Sociology of Food (right before lunchtime, thankfully!), Quantitate Research Methods in Sociology, Organisms on Earth as a science lab, and From Mothergoose to Myspace, which is a Critical Theory and Social Justice class that looks at children's literature. The classes are all very different from each other, which is what is so great about Oxy.
So with a few minutes to spare before practice I thought I'd share my top 3 goals for this semester. 1) Take advantage of being in LA. I plan on exploring more this semester. I made a plan with a friend to do one new thing every month. One plan right now is to go to the aquarium, which also helps satisfy a requirement for my Bio Class. 2) Go to more speakers. Oxy brings in multiple speakers every week on a variety of subjects. I plan on keeping up with the postings in the root and sit in on more lectures... even the ones that don't have free food. 3) Conquer the SCIAC. The Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference is the league that Oxy is a part of. Last year our team got 2nd place in the conference and we're working hard to top last year's record of 13-4. The season starts in February and we can't wait to show the SCIAC and the rest of the country what we got!
Speaking of, it's time to head down to the turf. Congratulations to all the newly admitted ED1 Tigers! Can't wait to meet you! Any questions about classes, Oxy sports, or anything Oxy really, don't hesitate to email!
