It’s almost spring break!
I’m in shock that freshman year is almost over! When I think back a year ago, I was knee deep in college apps and had no idea what I wanted to do. It’s incredible how much I’ve achieved and experienced in such a short amount of time. Here’s a little synopsis of what’s been keeping me busy here on campus:
- Intramural soccer: I played club soccer for nearly eight years before going to college. I made the decision not to try out for the girl’s soccer team because I realized that I wasn’t ready to make the huge time commitment of being on a college level team. Luckily, Oxy offers intramural 5v5 soccer in the spring. My friends and I created a team and had our first game two weeks ago. As soon as we got to the field, I realized that our team was the only team with girls on it. We aren’t even a completely female team! We have four guys and four girls. But the intramural “A” league was composed entirely of men, except for the four of us girls on my team! It was a little bit intimidating, but also exciting to be one of the few brave young women to be playing against some pretty big guys. Unfortunately, the last two games have been canceled due to rain (As a Seattelite, I know what rain actually is). But I’m looking forward to our next game!
- My new job: I just got a job in the admission office as the social media intern! I’m in charge of the admission office’s social media outreach (facebook, twitter, etc.) to all prospective students. I’m so grateful to have a job on campus and can’t wait to start working!
- Sick people: Washing my hands like it’s nobody’s business. Germs and general illnesses seem to spread in college so much faster because of the constant proximity to other people. Luckily, we have a great health center called Emmons. And I always keep my trusty hand sanitizer nearby :)
Stay healthy and have a great spring break!
