Italian Quad Dinner!
Blogger: Ashley Wilson
As part of living in Norris Hall, we are asked to put on events in accordance with our themes. Because our theme is International Film and Food, we decided to put on our first dinner – Italian themed. We made Spaghetti with tomato sauce, Bruschetta, and attempted to make Italian Wedding Cookies, but the oven didn't work. One of my quad mates made the tomato sauce from scratch, and it turned out really well. We then chopped up tomatoes, sautéd onions, and cut up cheese for the Bruschetta. However, we needed the oven to bake, but because it wasn't working, we improvised and melted it above the stove top. Aside from the pan burning, it turned out to be a great idea considering the resources we had at our expense.
Overall, the night was a great success. Everyone had fun cooking together, the food was delicious, and we all worked together to clean up. We ran into a few unpredicted obstacles, but everyone was a good sport and participated. Fortunately, we were able to use the kitchen in the ICC, which has a number of cooking materials free for our use. I'm glad everyone enjoyed themselves because, hopefully, we will put on more events like this one in the future and everyone will see that it really didn't take that much work and was a fun bonding experience.
I'm glad that we all committed to doing this event because it didn't put that much pressure on just one person and we were all able to contribute if we wanted to/could. We even had someone from the adjoining quad help us cook! That night reminded me why I wanted to be around all of them: we step up when we need each other and we support each other in all ways, no matter what. This Italian quad dinner really showed me that it was worth applying for Norris. I love my quad mates. I've realized that I've met some really quality people and we genuinely care about the well-being of each other. I hope that next semester, we continue to be as happy as we all are now.
