As we reach the point where counting months turns into counting weeks until graduation I’ve begun to experience the first of the “lasts.” Already having seen my last football game and had my last Spring Break (this one’s particularly bittersweet). I attended my last Dance Production performance this past weekend. Dance production is an annual event that is completely organized and run by Oxy students. Extremely talented students choreograph dances from hip hop to ballet, and this year over 300 students participated as dancers in the show! Seeing this show is always a highlight of my year because it gives me a chance to be blown away by the talents of my incredibly bright and passionate classmates - whether they’re my friends or people I see in passing in the quad.
Of course as graduation draws nearer and nearer I’ll be experiencing more lasts, a few of which I’m very much looking forward to (my last final, my last research paper, my last 8:30 am class) but there are also a lot of events in the coming month that I am already nostalgic for. Most of these are fantastic community service events that various clubs on campus put on annually. On April 13th the Occidental Sport Business and Law Network (of which I am Vice President) together with a few other students are putting on a 4 on 4 volleyball tournament fundraiser for Nothing but Nets, a grassroots organization that sends mosquito nets that protect families for up to 4 years! Later on in April is my favorite fundraiser, which my sorority Kappa Alpha Theta puts on, which is a Dodgeball tournament! The proceeds from this tournament go towards our philanthropy CASA - Court Appointed Special Advocates, and it is always a really well attended event! One of my favorite things about events such as these, is that so many students want to participate in community service, and these clubs and organizations make it so easy to do good on a daily basis! This just goes to show the kind of generous and good hearted people Oxy students are, and I am not ready to leave them just yet!!
Thanks for reading, prospective students, and best of luck to those of you who are in the process of deciding where to spend your next four years!!
