Let Me Hear You Roar: Planning to be a Tiger
Blogger: Matthew Hao
Hey future/prospective/current Tigers! I hope that the last few weeks of school are treating you well and you’re not too stressed with life (if you are, I suggest Netflix). Fortunately we all have a few months of lying in the sun, binge watching Netflix without guilt, and vacationing to look forward to! Even though this is going to be the best summer ever, there are still a few things you should consider if you are an incoming Oxy student. Hopefully I can help make life a little easier with this blog!
First off, take some time for yourself and just relax. Honestly, you deserve it, because making it through high school is huge and getting into Oxy is even huger, so yeah, take some me-time! For me, this consisted of going to the beach multiple times a week (sorry for those of you who don’t have a beach near you – maybe go to the nearest public pool or something idk). College can be a pretty stressful few months so the summertime is prime for relaxing. If you want to be super cool, read the required summer reading while lying out in the sun! You are definitely gonna have a book to read over the summer, so why not have fun doing it? Secondly, it’s super important to make sure that all your forms are turned in! I think I went on vacation and kind of forgot about them for a while and struggled to get them all in at the last minute (definitely don’t do that). Doing this not only makes life easier for Oxy, but for you too, I promise!
I know that meeting new people is sometimes (most times) very scary and intimidating, but talking to a few people before school is a really smart move. I messaged a girl who I knew through mutual friends, and because of that I had a person for orientation, which made adjusting that much easier (shout out to Chela – you tha homie). Lastly, my biggest recommendation would be to sign up for your CSP on time (like on the dot). It is so much easier to write papers on a topic you are passionate about, trust me! I logged in about 10 minutes after the sign up opened and already my top three CSP choices were full. Sad I know, but I learned a valuable lesson to pass on to all you future Oxy students.
Remember that all of Oxy cannot wait to have you here! Enjoy your summer, try and keep up with preparing for college, and get ready for the best four years of your life!
