Making the most of England
Blogger: Abigail Chin-Martin
My time here in Brighton is really winding down. I have about two weeks of classes left, and then on December 14th I’m jetting off to explore Madrid, Brussels, and Paris. I’m so incredibly excited! I fly home on December 24th and arrive in Seattle at 11:45 PM. Just in time for Christmas. I don’t know how happy my mom is with me for this.
My experience at University of Sussex has been wonderful, but I haven’t truly taken advantage of the fact that I’m just a few hours (maximum) from any European country! I have yet to leave England, but I can say quite assuredly that I have experienced A LOT of English life/places/people. Today, for example, I visited the Salisbury Cathedral, Bath, and Stonehenge. It was spectacular! I also had the opportunity to try my first traditional English Sunday Roast, complete with a Yorkshire pudding!
There are so many things I’m going to miss about England. I’ll miss pubs on every corner. The fish and chips shops open at 2 AM. The biscuits. And the tea. I’ll miss my flatmates and all the people I’ve met here. I’ll miss the accents and the novelty of being American. I’ll miss cider, too! There are so many things about this place that I love, but I can’t help but feel so excited to go home and return to Oxy in the spring. It’s a time of transitions. The only thing that can keep me sane is reminding myself to enjoy every last moment here. And I plan to do just that!
