Midsummer, Some Thoughts on Change

I’m trying to sleep in a little more but always manage to wake up around 6-7 a.m. every day. I guess my body is used to my routine at school where I didn’t really sleep in much, plus I’m a light sleeper and like to start my day early. Waking up early has been nice though, because I get to fit in some stretching and a workout before work (I get lazy often so the workout happens after work usually, haha). Drinking iced coffee instead of water has been a habit that I’ve developed especially since it’s been so hot and is nice to have while I’m working on projects at my internship. These projects have been fun because I’ve been learning a lot more about my own health and diet, as well as helping me build work skills.
My friend and I discussed on Saturday how crazy it was that it’s early August already. She’s working too and has two weeks before she’s done for the summer. I have two years left at school, yet Fall feels so far away and Oxy starts school on August 29th, which is earlier than many. A lot of my friends are going back to school at the end of the September and they feel like vacation has only really just begun. I’m starting to look at my schedule for next semester and this might change because I’m thinking about changing my major! I’m a little nervous to do so, but there’s still time to think about it. The Career Development Center has been extremely helpful and I’ve gotten to discuss a few of my concerns in terms of post-graduate endeavors (grad school, jobs, etc). So if you feel rushed to choose a major, don’t be! Try things out and if it doesn’t work out, then there is time to change your mind as long as you give yourself the time to. Remember to be proactive, be open to options, and keep positive!
Thinking about moving in reminds me of the heat wave that hits LA when everyone is lugging in their stuff up the stairs. So far the weather has been a little humid and I’m glad that I get to stay indoors for work. The weather is so much nicer at night and it’s been nice to catch an outdoor movie, have a bonfire, go to a museum, or pool party when the sun goes down. I have also been cooking a lot more during the week and have found ‘smittenkitchen.com’ to be my favorite site to turn to for recipes. Plus, they post awesome pictures that show the dishes and the ingredients themselves. I have gotten more creative in terms with what I’ve eaten (especially since pasta or quinoa with sautéed broccoli and garlic, chicken & veggies, mango, and avocado & toast get old pretty quickly).
Sorry for the text heavy post, here’s a picture of the garden at UEPI. Everyone helped clean it out before Alumni Weekend at Oxy and it looks great! I hope all is well and have a great rest of the summer!
