Campus Conversations
Since my last post…

A lot has been going on. A couple weeks back, we had room draw for people who are choosing to live in multicultural housing for the 2012-2013 school year. Next year, I’ll be living in Pauley with one of the coolest people and one of my best friends here at Oxy. I’m definitely excited to live in a double next year because I kind of missed out on the whole having a roommate thing. This year, as a freshman, I am living in a single. It has its perks, but I am definitely looking forward to next year. Aside from that, there were quite a bit of campus-wide events going on.
Dance Production:
DANCE PRO. The show was great. The dance styles ranged from Belly dancing to Broadway to Hip Hop. The show featured about a hundred or so dancers. They all worked so hard all year and it was nice to see the culmination of it all.
Spring Fest:
Last Friday was Springfest here on the Occidental campus. The night started with the food trucks. The Grill ‘Em All, Kogi, G2, and Cool Haus trucks were the options that students had to choose from. The best part was that it was free for Oxy students. After the food trucks, everyone headed up to the Greek Bowl at the top of campus for the concert. The opening act was Sound FX, an upcoming rap duo. The main event was Common. I really enjoyed myself, especially because I was in the front row. He really had the crowd into the performance. Overall it was a great time.
Apollo Night hosted by the Black Student Alliance:
On Friday night, the Black Student Alliance hosted the annual Apollo Night talent show in Thorne Hall. The sixteen acts ranged from poetry to singing. The performers did really well and the hosts definitely kept the audience entertained in between acts. The turnout was pretty good. It was a good event to allow students to showcase their talents in front of their peers.
Alpha Male:
Saturday night, the Alpha Lambda Phi Alpha sorority hosted a male beauty pageant of sorts called Alpha Male. There were ten contestants, who all had to walk the cat walk, tell a pick up line, display a talent, and then answer questions from the hosts. There were a ton of funny moments. Shout out to all of the participants.
In between all the events and such, my friends and I made time for a couple runs here and there. Boba runs to Half &Half. Trips to 21 Choices. Late Night Krispy Kream cravings. Random trips to Target. Also a failed mission to see The Hunger Games…In addition to that, I also took the time to go out and support the Occidental Track and Field teams. Everyone did pretty well. Anyway, it was nice meeting a lot of the potential first year students this past Friday at the Admitted Students Open House event. Congrats to all of the accepted students and good luck making your college decision!
Until next time…
