Campus Conversations
My life is redonkulously busy.
Blogger: Katherine Carey
As my title says, life is a little busy. As I'm sure it is for all of you too. I haven't posted in ages because of everything that's been happening. Getting back from study abroad has been more of a challenge than I anticipated, between seeing friends, being the VP of Delta sorority, re-training as a tour guide, applying for various positions for the summer and fall, and, of course, taking classes. I forgot how mixed my personal, academic, and professional lives are here on campus. But one thing at a time, right?
Probably the most exciting thing that has happened to me since I last posted is that I was accepted to Oxy's program at the United Nations in New York for the fall semester. I'm bummed to be off-campus again for half my senior year, but I'm so excited to have this opportunity to learn and work at the UN and really get my hands dirty in my intended field of work. I was also accepted to work with Orientation Core again, so I'll be doing interviews for Orientation Team leaders in the next few weeks, and getting back early in August to help plan Orientation and train the leaders, which I'm really looking forward to.
My classes are going well. I'm particularly enjoying my Junior Writing Seminar on Human Rights and Trafficking in Persons. It was a topic I knew almost nothing about when I started, but that is fascinating and relevant. I'm also loving my US Foreign Relations class; we are discussing ways that US power has changed since World War II, as well as the way that the US is viewed by other countries, and how our policy choices since 2001 have changed our world reputation. All of that is super interesting to me, and I'm learning about issues that are good to have on my radar before the upcoming election.
Thankfully though, it's spring break. As much as I love my classes, they are demanding, and having this break is a total lifesaver. I spent a weekend in Big Bear with two of my close friends, eating, watching movies, hiking, bowling, and giggling. It was a great time, and we had excellent weather, though hardly any snow.

Since I got back on Monday, I've just been sleeping in, watching movies and TV on my computer, reading, and eating out. Last night, I got to see one of my best friends from home who goes to Notre Dame. She played water polo against CalTech (her team won 10-2), which was was really fun to watch, and then we went out to dinner with her aunt and uncle afterwards, so I really got to spend some time with her. All of this relaxing has greatly diminished my stress and crankiness levels, which I hope I can maintain after classes start again next week.
However, there are still soooo many things that I'm still hoping to get done before break ends, and I can't believe it's already Thursday. Just like I can't believe that it's already March 15th, either. Seriously. Where does the time go? I hope that you're enjoying your break if you're on it, or surviving until they arrive. Regardless, this song is quite popular in my sorority right now, and since it's so cheery and this video is so silly, I thought I'd post it for your viewing enjoyment. Happy watching, and I'll be back soon.
