Ode to a Summer at Oxy

Ode—to a Summer at Oxy!
A blog post one might call unorthodoxy.
With warm weather and a cloudless blue sky,
summers at Oxy are the best—here are a few reasons why:
Independent research, internships in LA,
on-campus jobs, an all-you-can-eat buffet.
I’m studying literature, my friend is analyzing Dark Matter
it makes for great small-talk and light party banter.
We live off campus
in a house with a porch and a lawn,
It’s a far cry from our days chilling in Braun.
(It’s kind of like the opening scene in Legally Blonde…)
Without homework and tests, friends are over all the time
Playing Settlers of Catan (or helping make this poem rhyme).
Four weeks into summer
and four seasons into Friends,
most movies with Seth Rogan;
the fun never ends!
I play tennis on weekends
and spend days by the pool.
It’s like a country club
that’s disguised as a school.
Instead of attending assemblies
and lifting my GPA towards a 4
I’ve been lifting reps of twenty!
And doing planks on the floor.
Where is the homework, the meal plans and tests?
They’re gone! Now I can focus on my triceps and chest.
And though I know that it’s too good to last,
that fall will come soon with textbooks and class,
I’ll look back fondly on this summer of fun,
So glad I chose Ox—
What’s that? Were going to a taco truck? Be right there!
