Party Rock is in the House Tonight!
Blogger: Marisha Thakker
Any Potterheads out there? This got stuck in my head along with all my Bollywood and hip-hop moves. Dance Production 2012 made history by selling out the ENTIRE show tonight! The crowd was loud, the dances were amazing and it reminded me why I love dancing so much. Thorne Hall (our main auditorium) seats almost nine hundred people, and we usually have a full house, but this year today's show actually sold every single seat, which is incredible. Being a choreographer has taught me so much. Leading a group of enthusiastic dancers at the beginning of Fall 2011, I wasn't sure where the piece was going to go (anyone can be a choreographer with no prior experience, which is amazing) but it turned out spectacular.
Dance Production this year had over two hundred and fifty participants, which is huge by Oxy standards. I can't believe we only have one more show tomorrow! I'm treating all my dancers to Indian food on Sunday. One of the many reasons I love Dance Production is the way it brings people together. All years participate and all levels of dancers are accepted. Watching the transition from unsure followers to dancing machines that bring the crowd to their feet is always so satisfying. Perhaps it is an effect of being hot off the stage, but I just realized how enriching the experience of being a part of the Dance Production Team is. The DVDs are going to be released in April, and here's a link to the Youtube page for last year's pieces. Time to relax with the (awesome) Cookie Dough ice-cream from the Cooler and the best Baklava in town from Sarkis bakery. I'm burning enough calories from all the dancing, right? xP
