Seattle Bicyclists Need to Know When to Quit...
Hi Everybody! I hope you all had a wonderful winterbreak/holiday. As some of you may have heard, Seattle had a huge snowstorm this break. We got about 6 inches. Now before anyone from Anchorage or Boston scoffs, 6 inches of snow is a HUGE deal in Seattle. Us Seattleites don't know how to prepare for or function in snow. I think Washington state may have two snow plows. Seattle also has seven major hills. The woman in the video below is reporting from Queen Anne Hill, one of the best sledding hills in Seattle. I thought this was funny the first time I saw it live on the news. And next thing I know, it's on The Daily What! http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=jmei9yWxhyM Seattleites are probably some of the worst snow drivers, too. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r6zlkP8thkk Seattle has the second highest percent of bike commuters in the US, though! (Second to Portland - please refer to Portlandia to learn more about the rivalry). The title of this blogpost is a message to all of the crazy bicyclists in the snow. Every time I left my house I would see bicyclists trudging through the snow with icicles hanging off their helmets. Their noses would be bright red and the front wheel of the bike would be wobbling slowly through the slush. I couldn't find an accurate picture of this type of situation, though. I could only find this picture of what Seattleites probably want the people of Portland to believe they look like while cruising through the fresh powder.
Lastly, I want to leave you with another youtube video. It's funny for people who don't live in Seattle because they can laugh at us. (My friend from Boston watched this and said, "Seattle makes me sad"). And it's also funny for people that live in Seattle because it's too true. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VPeubeuDONI
