Some outdated ongoings and new students on campus
April 25, 2011
Well, the beard is long gone. Our team has won only three games out of our last six, and has instead turned to “good luck Mohawks” for help. Hopefully this weekend will be better… On campus, though, things are looking up. Room draw and course registration has passed, the Prospective Student Open Houses have begun, the warm southern California weather is finally returning, and I can almost feel my junior year coming to a close. I can’t believe I’m almost three-quarters of the way through college. It’s kind of scary. For room draw and course registration, I lucked out big time. Next year I’ll be living in Wylie (my favorite dorm) with two of my friends in a triple, and next semester I’ll be taking six classes, four for full credit and two for half. My schedule will look something like this: Monday and Wednesday: Mexican Revolution 3:00-4:30 Tuesday and Thursday: Yoga 8:00-9:00 Intro to New Media 10:00-11:30 American Studies Theories 1:30-3:00 Writing for the Web 2.0 3:00-4:30 And Experiencing the Arts whenever there are events. It’s kind of a weird schedule, I know. But it’s also a productive one. Next term I will finish my History minor with Mexican Revolution, pick up my last needed Core requirement (Art) with Intro to New Media, cross off another American Studies requirement with the Theories class, take an advanced writing course, and add two more credits with Yoga and Experiencing the Arts. Also I have no Friday class, which means a whole semester of three-day weekends. Score! But enough about me. While I have had a solid last two weeks in terms of setting myself up for next year, a lot has been happening around school that’s worth noting. For the past couple of weeks, prospective students have been pouring onto campus for tours, information sessions, and meet and greets. My classes are overflowing with high-schoolers eager to get a glimpse of Oxy. It’s kind of cool and I love when the visiting students ask me questions about college; it makes me feel important, haha. Anyways, that’s pretty much all I have for now. More will come next week. Until then….
