Hello future tigers and tigers alike!
Happy Spring! It has been a hectic semester so far. Here are some things that I've been up to.
Lacrosse: This is definitely the thing I blog about most. We are about halfway through our season at this point and are currently 6-1. We went 5-0 in the SCIAC first round, and are working on finishing our out of conference play. This week we face opponents North Central (Illinois), Pacific (Oregon), and Colorado College.
Delta: As co-social chair of Delta Omicron Tau, I have helped plan many social events throughout the semester. It has been a blast working with the other social chairs, as well as with our venue and photographer for our Semi-Formal. Additionally, Delta is currently planning our big philanthropy event of the year: A 90's Field day! All proceeds from the field day are going towards the Downtown Women's Center.
Hillsides: For my Children, Poverty, and Public Policy class in the CTSJ department, we are required to do 36-40 hours worth of fieldwork with youth in poverty. I chose to volunteer as a teacher's aide in a 7th/8th grade classroom at Hillsides Education Center in Pasadena. Hillsides is a specialized school for "at-risk" children. Most of the children there live on campus and are given all the resources they need to be successful. Because I have no specialized training, I mostly observe, but I am frequently given opportunities to work one on one with some of the children. Working with them has been extremely rewarding and eye opening. Hillsides is a wonderful place, and I'm so happy to have the chance to work with them.
Can't wait to see what else this semester has in store. In the meantime, if you're on campus this week, I suggest picking up a copy of the April Fools edition of the Occidental Weekly, or relaxing by the fountain with the ducks that have recently appeared!
Congratulations to all of the new admits; we can't wait to meet you all!
