Last Saturday I had the urge to explore and found myself all across LA. I started off by biking up to Debs Park which is a beautiful shrubby woodland atop a 200 acre hill just east of downtown. Coyotes, Great Horned Owls, Red Tailed Hawks, and ancient Oaks all inhabit the park. Below is a panorama from the dry side of the park, however it doesn't do it justice.
Lucky for me there was a paved road on the southern side of the park which allowed me to practically coast all the way to downtown. I was graciously greeted by a brand spankin new bike lane painted green. I road this lane all the way to my next stop which was Umamicatessan. Umamicatessan is the newest addition (opened up last week) to the famed Umami restaurant group. It turns out umami is also the name of the newest recognized basic taste, the other four being sweet, sour, bitter, and salty. Let me tell you the Umami burger is extremely decadent but also extremely delicious. Won't be a weekly treat for me. Below is a Panorama I took of the new restaurant.
I then headed back to campus to finish my day of gluttony. , F.E.A.S.T., the garden and student organization that I help run, hosted a potluck along with Well Fed, the cooking club on campus. Turns out our chickens love quinoa.
