Local Highlight- Asian Pears

Have you been wondering about that mysterious looking fruit at the fruit stand?

This week’s local highlight is organic Asian “shinko” pears from Ken Lee’s Top Notch Farm, which is located just 200 miles from Oxy. Asian pears are crisp and very juicy, earning them the name of “apple pear,” even though they have no real relation to the apple. Because of their texture and juiciness, these pears are normally eaten raw.

The Top Notch Farm is a certified organic farm, so they don’t use harmful pesticides or chemicals on their produce. They are also committed to being GMO free. Top Notch Farm is known throughout Los Angeles for its stone fruit, and their produce can also be found at farmers’ markets, including at the weekly South Pasadena, West Hollywood, and La Cinenega markets. You can find these pears at the Fruit Stand!
