"You should have panini makers available near the sandwich station. It could be like the waffle makers where students are able to use the panini makers themselves"
We have received many requests over the years for paninis, and understand how appealing the concept is. However, we just don't think panini grills, either staffed or self-service would work for the Marketplace. We've tried the staffed model over winter, spring and summer breaks - it's quite popular, but the line moves VEEEERRRY slowly. Even if we had four panini machines going, we still couldn't keep up with the speed of service required to handle the regular school year meal rushes.
Self-Service panini machines would create another line - ie students would need to stand in line for a sandwich and then in another line to grill their sandwich. We're not at all sure we could find the space for this, or that students would put up with the extra time in line.
knowing how much students love grilled sandwiches, we try to put them on the Marketplace menu often. This week look for Italian Pressed Chicken Subs as well as Eggplant, Tomato & Spinach Grilled Sandwiches at Homestyle lunch on Friday 9/27.
"Anything with eggplant!!! Eggplant in garlic sauce, roasted eggplant, more eggplant!"
We hear you. As noted above, you should like this Friday's lunch menu at Homestyle. We'll work on other eggplant options :-)
"For meatless indian mondays could you make aloo gobi and Baigan Bhartha?"
We received your suggestions on 9/14, and both these items were included in the Monday 9/16 menu! You may have thought we were wizards, but it was actually just a happy coincidence.

This one is not a coincidence. Thanks to your suggestion, Curly Fries will be the weekend special for Saturday 9/21.

This flavor rotates along with the others. Everyone has their favorite. Although the Noni Berry is not among the most popular varieties, it will be returning to the Cooler.

We're sooo sorry, but this Coffee Cart selection was an Auntie Em's Kitchen product. The Coffee Cart and Tiger Cooler will no longer be offering items from our local partner, Auntie Em's Kitchen. Auntie Em's has served us very well the past few years, but last week they notified us that it was no longer in the best interest of their operation to continue serving our accounts. We offered to raise prices in order to help offset their costs, but they declined, along with the following message:
"I would love to have shrimp ceviche :) Thank you."
Happy to oblige. Come to the Marketplace for lunch on Friday 9/27 and enjoy our ceviche station at Chef's Corner! and BTW, we will also have cold shrimp cocktail and gazpacho at the soup station for lunch through dinner on Monday 9/23.
"I was bummed out today when I went in to the Cooler and found the Barq's root beer had been replaced by A&W. Please tell me this is a temporary thing or an issue with the supplier. Of all widely distributed sodas, I'd have to say that Barq's is superior and the fact that it has caffeine gives me the perfect little boost to get me through the afternoon without the overload of coffee. If it's an issue of people liking A&W, I've noticed that you've begun to carry Diet Cherry Coke as well, so surely my good buddy Barq's can share shelf space with that. I'm not trying to sound high maintenance, but please, every wonderful campus dining, return this little ray of perfect root beer delight to my day. I simply feel lost now, and maybe a bit betrayed by the change :,c"
The absence of Barq's is temporary, at least we hope so. We've been unable to obtain the insurance required by the College to use the distributor who carries Barq's, hence quite a few substitutions are being made to the Tiger Cooler beverage selections. We're working on it, but the solution really rests with the distributor agreeing to provide the required insurance.
"The prices of particular items are not always posted very clearly. Items may seem to be missing from a menu board, or they simply may be hard to find amongst all the others. Additionally, because of the changes to the meal plan, the prices posted are not what students on meal plans pay. This makes it somewhat difficult to plan purchases according to a budget because the price of a particular item is often not very clear. It would be very helpful if measures could be made to make the price of items in the marketplace more clear."
Thanks for expressing this concern to us. We'll take a more customer-focused look at our signage to see what we can do better to let you know what the prices are, particularly for our specials. That said, students on residential meal plans all pay 50% of the posted prices. We made a calculated decision not to post two prices because it's a pretty simple calculation once you get used to it :-)

It really is one of the main sources of food on the campus and easy things such as chicken strips shouldn't be crossed off because of "lack of space" or "it's too difficult". Instead of having 5 million dollars donated to tech, we should be spending that money on renovating the cooler."
We can't disagree. The Cooler was last remodeled in 1997, and since then the resident student population has grown significantly. We could do so much more with more space and equipment. Wish we had a donor !!! BTW however, chicken strips are not offered often because they have to be cooked at JSC and brought over to the Cooler. The Cooler has a one-compartment fryer, for which the oil needs to remain vegetarian (which brings us back to the issue of space and equipment...)
To the student who expressed two concerns about the Cooler: Thanks for letting us know. We've provided some necessary coaching. And we're working on a solution to the cold French Fries!
To the student who submitted recipes for Fried Rice and Chow Mein: Look for Fried Rice this Saturday 9/21 at Marketplace Brunch. Look for Chow Mein (slightly different recipes) Mondays and Wednesdays at lunch at the Sautee Station and Tuesdays and Thursdays lunch at the Grill Station.
