February Speaker Wrap-up: Erin Michelson and Ippolita Rostagno
The CDC hosts many amazing guest speakers every semester that provide students with wider perspectives on career options and advice for the world after Oxy.
This month, we were delighted to host two dynamite speakers.
On February 3rd, entrepreneur and philanthropist Erin Michelson spoke to 20 students on her experience traveling to over 60 countries and helping individuals all over the world. Erin is creating a movement of likeminded people who are forming a global community of “Adventure Philanthropists.” She promotes her philosophy through her blog, www.GoErinGo.com, and her book, Adventure Philanthropist: Great Adventures Volunteering Abroad, which chronicles her adventures volunteering with organizations on all 7 continents. She inspires and motivates everyone she meets to make philanthropy a part of their lives.
Less than a week later on February 7th, 25 students heard Ippolita Rostagno’s story of finding outlets for her creative ambitions through fashion and art. Moving to the US from Italy, Ippolita completed her studies at Occidental and immediately threw herself into the art world, first through modern dance and clothing design, but finally found her calling in jewelry design. Ippolita’s dedication to craftsmanship means that every piece is made by hand. Her luxury fashion jewelry company, IPPOLITA (founded in 1999), is now known for its fresh and colorful aesthetic and diverse use of materials, and has a strong following among celebrities and style makers worldwide.
