The CDC offered 25 different events and programs in October!
During the month of October, the Career Development Center hosted over a dozen employers looking to recruit Occidental students. Off-campus recruiters included nonprofits like CollegeSpring, a tutoring service for low-income high school students, and companies like Payden & Rygel, one of the largest global independent investment management firms in the US. In addition, our Getting to the Corps event gave the 70 students in attendance the opportunity to network with representatives from gap year service programs. Graduate programs like the CSULB Masters in Sports Management, as well as the Johns Hopkins program in Nanjing, were also looking to attract Oxy applicants.
We were thrilled to engage Oxy alumni this month with the Fireside Chat series. Judy Harper ’82, Senior Program Director at Community Partners, and Ben Bergman ’04, Business Reporter at KPCC, stopped by to talk candidly with students about their career paths. The CDC also offered alumni drop-in hours during Homecoming weekend.
Many students took advantage of CDC programs, including a workshop on how to target a resume to get a job at a nonprofit. We also kicked off the Walk In My Shoes (WIMS) Away program for Oxy sophomores, with over 50 students in attendance at two info sessions and a resume building workshop. Finally, in preparation for Tech Industry Night next week, we trained interested students on how to make the best of a great networking opportunity.
Hope to see you at our November events!
