Tiger Tales: Aja-Fullo Sanneh ‘13
"Valerie Savior in the CDC helped me tremendously with my law school application journey."
My name is Aja Sanneh and I am a senior, economics major at Oxy. My commitment to academics and engaging in leadership opportunities at Oxy have helped prepare me for law school, along with the help of the Valerie Savior in the CDC.
Taking advantage of my liberal arts education has been critical to my personal growth. Because I walk from art to economics to english class, I have learned to think in different ways, speak different languages, problem solve with a variety of tools, and work with my peers from all academic backgrounds. Additionally, my experience as the student representative on the Board of Trustees Academic Affairs Committee has deepened my understanding and commitment to academics at Oxy. My roles in student government and student clubs, such as the president of Mortar Board Senior Honor Society and president of the Muslim Students Association, have also allowed me to improve my leadership skills while learning to juggle a demanding schedule.
All of these experiences have prepared me for law school. I learned how to communicate with different people, problem solve under pressure, and relate to ideas and cultures different from my own. I am now able to put my life in local, national, and global contexts. Naturally, the intense workload makes me strong enough to handle the stresses of law school. But the lessons I have learned outside the classroom are equally important.
Moreover, Valerie Savior in the CDC helped me tremendously with my law school application journey. From last summer when she spent over an hour talking about my urge to pursue law to last week when she sincerely congratulated me on acceptance, she has been incredible. She recommend that I take an LSAT prep course, helped me develop my personal statement, helped me with all (and there were many) drafts of my personal statement, and she helped me understand the time frame I faced. It was difficult and tiring, but in the end, I got into every school I applied to (with the exception of one waitlist) and could not be more grateful for her help.
I was accepted to USC Gould School of Law, Cornell Law School, Loyola Marymount Law School, and Southwestern Law School.
I look forward to being a Trojan this fall.
