Find an Internship
Students are encouraged to secure multiple academic and non-academic internship experiences in a variety of occupational areas.
Interning allows students to clarify career interests, gain invaluable skills, and begin to build a professional network. At Occidental College, students are not placed in internships. It is the student's responsibility to research options and find a suitable site. However, there are some Career Development Center resources that provide a great place to start your search for an internship.
Through TIGERlink, you can access to the Nationwide Internship Consortium (NIC), which has thousands of national internship opportunities that are specifically targeted to our campus as well as those of peer institutions who are members of NIC. You can access NIC once you've registered on TIGERlink (see below) by clicking on the "Nationwide Internship Consortium" link in the Jump To section.
Since all students have already been pre-populated into the system, you can register on TIGERlink by inputting your Oxy email address as your username (e.g. email@example.com), and click "forgot password." An email with a newly regenerated password will be sent directly to your Oxy email address, which you can then use to login. If you are having trouble, please call the Career Devleopment Center directly at (323) 259-2623 during business hours, or email us at firstname.lastname@example.org.
The CDC has also partnerned with Internships.com to offer students another great resource for looking for and applying to internships. Internships.com has the vast internship database with tens of thousands of active listings for summer, fall, winter, and spring. You can customize your search by company size, city or major zip code, major, or keywod. In addition, it offers the Internship Predictor™ which assists students navigate which internship opportunity is best suited for your interests.
Oxy offers several courses and practicums that provide valuable internship or fieldwork experiences. Some majors, such as UEP, Psychology, Politics, Physics, and others require and/or offer internships through the major. In addition, there are some departments have internship opportunities, like the Theater department is able to offer the Summer Edgerton Internships.
There are also a number of departments on-campus that can assist you in your search for internships. For instance, the IPO office via their study-abroad programs offer internship opportunities, the Keck Undergraduate Programs Office also has partnerships with two local organizations which offer year-long internship opportunities, and Oxy has partnered with JPL to recruit for the JPL/Student Internship Research Internship (SIRI) Program.
