Occidental College
Community Literacy Center
Story time
Occidental College's Community Literacy Center is a hidden jewel tucked behind Thorne Hall.
In the true spirit of community engagement, each participant grows from the other. Here both Oxy students and local children enrich each other's lives in a warm and welcoming environment.
What's the focus?
Creative exploration in language arts. Enrichment at all levels, whether the child is gifted, an English-language learner, or who perhaps faces a temporary roadblock in finding a love of reading, writing and creative expression, or all of the above.
Who do we serve? Kindergarteners through fifth graders, on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 3:30 to 5 p.m. Sixth through eighth graders on Wednesdays from 3:30 to 5:30 p.m.
How do Oxy students get involved? Enroll in Ed 140 or Ed 141 for 2 units, credit/no credit.
Want to enroll a child? Contact the director.
