Establishing Authenticity in Traditional Chinese Painting
How does one determine an authentic Chinese painting from a copy or forgery, and what determines the difference between a copy and a forgery?
These questions have confounded collectors and connoisseurs for centuries. This lecture examines some of the key issues and techniques involved in the connoisseurship of Chinese painting. The talk will include a discussion of artist's materials and styles, the formation of artistic lineages, the traditional Chinese literature on connoisseurship, the theoretical and technical relationship of painting and calligraphy, and a case study of copies and forgeries in the work of the Ming dynasty painter Qiu Ying (ca. 1494-1551/52).
Stephen Little is Curator and Head of the Chinese and Korean Art Department at the Los Angeles County Museum of Art.

"Red Nightmare" and "Hollywood on Trial"
They went to jail in defense of their rights.
In "Red Nightmare" a man wakes up to find the Communists have taken over America. A stranger in town: Judge Grant while vacationing in a small town finds corruption. A young honest lawyer, Bill Adams, is trying to become mayor to end corruption.
"Hollywood on Trial" is a courageous and true recording of the story of "The Hollywood Ten", who, in 1947, would not cooperate when accused by the United States government of possible communist loyalties.
