Presidential Foreign Policy Debate
The Los Angeles Consular Corps will stage a debate on foreign policy in the current presidential campaign.

The debate will be introduced by Kirsti Westphalen, Consul General of Finland and the new Dean of the Consular Corps. The debate will be moderated by LAWAC President and CEO Terry McCarthy, and questions will be solicited from the audience.
Speaking to Governor Romney's platform will be Professor of Public Policy at Pepperdine University, Robert Kaufman, author most recently of "In Defense of the Bush Doctrine." Kaufman assisted President Richard Nixon in the writing of Nixon's last book, and is currently researching a biography on President Ronald Reagan.
Speaking to President Obama's platform will be Stuart Chevalier Professor of Diplomacy and World Affairs at Occidental College, Derek Shearer. Shearer served in the Clinton administration in the Commerce Department and then as ambassador to Finland (1994-97), and was a foreign policy advisor to Vice President Al Gore and Senator Hillary Clinton during their respective bids for the presidency.
Neither speaker has any official role in the Romney or Obama campaign. The debate will likely look at how the candidates propose to deal with China, Israel, Afghanistan, Iran, Syria, Europe, Canada, Latin America and Russia, among others. Each answer will be limited to two minutes with a rebuttal of one minute to allow a wide variety of topics to be covered.
