Richard Leher '66 on Copyright Law and the Entertainment Industry

Philosophy major Richard Leher '66, one of the country's leading entertainment attorneys, will address the complexities of copyright law in the Internet age as the Philosophy Department's 125th Anniversary Distinguished Alumni Speaker.

A graduate of Boalt Hall School of Law at UC Berkeley and now a partner at Greenberg Traurig LLP, Leher was previously an executive at Hollywood Records and Dreamworks Records. He has extensive experience representing recording artists (including the Rolling Stones), music producers, publishers, songwriters, personal managers, record and publishing companies, as well as technology companies and executives. He will talk about how copyright applies to intellectual property in the entertainment industry, and review how recent court decisions, including the Napster, Grockster, and Viacom v. Google -- have helped shape the current state of the law.
