Welcome to the Third Los Angeles
The series kicks off with an introduction to the goals and central themes of the Third Los Angeles project.
- Location: Choi Auditorium
- Time: 7:30 PM - 9:30 PM
- Sponsor: Third Los Angeles Project
Most Angelenos have a sense that the city is in the midst of some marked changes, with a new emphasis on public space and civic architecture, such as building transit lines instead of freeways and apartment buildings instead of single-family houses with private gardens. But this is more than a mere shift in planning priorities or spending. In fundamental ways, the city is moving into a profoundly new phase in its civic development, one that brings encouraging change along with new political, architectural and environmental challenges. With UCLA’s Dana Cuff, REDCAT Gallery Director Ruth Estevez, Occidental’s Mark Vallianatos, historian William Deverell, writer Alissa Walker and others; moderated by Christopher Hawthorne.
